About the Office
Nevada’s State Climatologist collects and interprets Nevada’s climate data and shares this analysis with interested stakeholders including the general public. The state climatologist operates from the University of Nevada, Reno and is a member of the American Association of State Climatologists.
Nevada’s State Climatologist is Douglas P. Boyle Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Nevada, Reno.
About Nevada's State Climatologist
Dr. Boyle is a watershed hydrologist with over 20 years of experience in the development, implementation, and evaluation of complex computer-based models of surface and groundwater hydrologic systems in arid and semi-arid environments. He is an associate professor in the Department of Geography is a former director of the Nevada Water Resources Research Institute at the Desert Research Institute. He was recently invited to join Dr. Wallace Broecker’s Paleohydrology Group, based at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University, to help further the group’s understanding of paleoclimate and pluvial lake levels in the Great Basin.
