Be a Weather Observer
Does weather and climate fascinate you? Do you have a working weather station, or even just a thermometer that measures the daily high and low temperature? Do you want to be a part of the fastest growing climate office in the country, covering one of the largest and most diverse states geographically and climatologically in the nation? Basically, are you a Nevada weather nut?! If you feel yourself getting worked up and repeatedly nodding or chanting “yes,” then… WE WANT YOU!
The Nevada Climate Office is built upon a dedicated team of observers from all over the Silver State. These are the folks that make following and studying our complex climate possible. Climate changes rapidly as you move across Nevada from mountaintop to valley floor, from river basin to dry lakebed, and from downtown urban areas to lush, green ranchlands. As our team of observers grows, our understanding of climate in Nevada will grow exponentially. Think about the old saying, “If a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound if no one is there to hear it?” Weather and climate in Nevada share a similar fate today. Was there a weak tornado in Northern Nye County if it was not observed, or how much rain fell in parts of Lincoln County, when flooding occurred downstream hours later? With your help, we will know and we can tell the story.
Contact us at the Nevada Climate Office today, and we will start the ball rolling!
